The acclaimed director challenges his creative boundaries with this nifty paranormal narrative shot entirely from the perspective of the spirit. When a household featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the filming device – AKA the Presence – tracks their movements. This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest stands strong despite the lack of a follow-up. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, several child abductions has made the local kids frightened. When Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and held captive in a cellar, he anticipates the worst. However, the non-functional line mounted nearby repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices offering help, as the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. An effective horror. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. The actor portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye begin profiting from the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of poor styling, bad makeup and bad faith, though the lead actress manages to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, late night, on Film4
